Candidates agree on need for improved communication The Village of Mamaroneck Republican Committee has once again endorsed a slate of candidates that span the political spectrum, returning Democrat Marianne Ybarra and adding newcomers Mary Polanco Vozza (I) and Greg Sullivan (R). Sullivan, a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals, is the only registered Republican on the ticket. Though a registered Democrat, Ybarra ran as a Republican candidate last year and has been a solid member of the board’s Republican majority. Having taken an unexpired seat last fall, she is back this year to defend it for the regular election cycle. |

If Village Attorney Christie Derrico has her way, come November she’ll be upholding the law of the village instead of helping craft it. Recently endorsed by the village Republican Committee, Derrico hopes to fill the seat on the Mamaroneck Village Justice Court being vacated by Judge Richard Lanza. Derrico has long been involved in the political life of the village. She was first elected to public office in 2002, when she served a term as village trustee. She was narrowly defeated the following term, and in her subsequent political downtime, she served as president of the Larchmont-Mamaroneck League of Women Voters. During that time, she said, the league addressed critical issues important in the Mamaroneck community through participation in an immigration study, conducting annual political debates and conducting environmental forums. |
